This article focuses on the need to identify a possible theoretical frame for music therapy, proposing a possible integration between the intersubjective perspective and that of free sound-music improvisation. The authors identify a few key concepts such as "affect attunement", "vitality affects", and "present moment", that are the contact point with improvisation in the music therapy practice. According to this perspective, the therapeutic potentialities of the sound-music interaction are attributable to its features as an organizer and a regulator in the individual’s development. Therefore, through non-verbal and sound-music communication, music therapy can help determine more and more justified and internalized representative and symbolic relationships.
Keywords: Music therapy, free improvisation, intersubjective relationship, emotional regulation, affect attunement, meeting moments.
