Presumably, faced with new banking crises, States should no longer intervene to save banks from bankruptcy unless taxpayers do not end up bearing the burden of the cost. Distressed public finances can no longer sustain the cost of bank bailouts, which should not be necessary if in the meantime different legal solutions to those currently in place could be found to manage banking crises and reduce the impact on savers. Moreover, the fate of the latter should be entrusted to the good management of assets and liabilities of banks as well as their attitudes and policies in respect of risks assumed or those that can be assumed.
