After a brief overview of the social transformation of the father figure and a reference to the legislation in force in Italy on the situation of separated and/or divorced parents, the article presents the results of an exploratory survey conducted on a sample of fathers involved in the divorce or separation, using semi-structured interviews; then, some conclusions of indepth studies on fatherhood in non-clinical contexts, the field of expertise of some of the authors, are reported to provide a broader view of the topic. Central to the reflection are the consequences that the wounds inflicted by the divorce can cause and the opportunities that they can offer, once healed, to those fathers willing to get back into the game.
Keywords: Father, two-parenting, divorce, paternal role and function, istitutions, change.
