At the birth of a child, the solidity of narcissistic foundations and the infantile of the par-ents are tested even in the ramifications of their cultural affiliations. The meeting between a baby and his parents is an opportunity for nostalgic rêveries and a source of wonder, but sometimes stumbles on the singular history of each, the construction of their couple and their many after-effects. Projections towards the baby sometimes hinder the building of early bonds and the construction of the infant's primary narcissism. The game of identifications is damaged and the baby painfully identified with a disturbing stranger. When she herself is contained by an attentive presence, the mother can sometimes regain a calming and sensual capacity; the analyst offers representations of the issues in which the partners of the dyad are caught in the grip of anxiety. This work of transforming affects into words favors this place of the third par-ty which seeks to allow the child and his mother to rediscover a capacity for representative play associated with pleasure.
