The Author remembers for Mondo Contemporaneo the German historian Klaus Voigt, his sincere friend, who disappeared in Berlin on 21 September 2021. Inter-nationally known for his research on German Exile, Voigt is well-known in Italy also to have rebuilt the story of the "boys of Villa Emma", a group of Jews teen-agers from Central-Eastern Europe who in 1942, after an amazing peregrination, landed in Nonantola, a town close to Modena. He was born in Berlin on 2 Novem-ber 1938 and - starting from medieval history - he dedicated then to the study of the idea of European union. And, in more mature age, to the study of refugees (expecially Jews) coming from National Socialist Germany. His most known work is Zuflucht auf Widerruf (The precarious shelter). The topic of the relationship with Italy is at the center of the friendly conversation between Capogreco and Voigt, of 2016, published here for the first time. Despite being closed rather abruptly, for an unexpected, the tale of Voigt is very fresh and spontaneous. And it ends right with a recall to Nontantola, the place where he, in the middle of the Nineties, started his substantial research about the Jews boys escaping from Nazism.
