Towards New Representation for Agriculture - The professional agricultural organisations should be looking into the reasons why representation is in a state of crisis, and considering the new conditions upon which the renewed model is to be based. Evolution in the relations between democracy and globalisation together with changes affecting agricultural institutions and policies alike delineate the scenario within which we should be analysing the issues of the last twenty years and seeking out new directions. In this respect renewed forms of representation would seem to depend on the capacity agricultural organisation can show in forging a project to reformulate, in the most comprehensive and responsible manner possible, the contents on which to base relations between society and agriculture. The project should afford a means of dialogue with the institutions and society. It should also represent a core for choices regarding organisational ordering and the service network, and indeed for the creation of economic structures and relations with other sectors of the economy and the consumers.
