Recent research considers stress as a combination of medical and psychological factors. In particular, there is consensus about problems in the interaction between people and their work environment. Moreover, several studies show that urban architectural elements can play a role in people’s health, influencing on their stress level. Starting from this point, this paper proposes that we need not only a re-consideration of work environment, but also a new approach to medical treatment: home and community could be included, without considering them only a place for assistance as it was until 1800. Several factors are influencing this change: a new approach to health and medicine, a technological progress in diagnosis, etc. However, all of them are connected to a key-role played by architecture.
