The research aims at knowing the domestic violence phenomenon through the study of the risk and protective factors of the child witnesses. The present study is based on a qualitative approach. The sample is constituted by 24 mothers who were victim of domestic violence by their partners and who lived in sheltered accommodations. The main results of the research are the relation between the beginning of domestic violence and either the pregnancy or the child birth, the relation between the direct victimization and the violence witness, and, finally, the role of the multiethnic aspects of the partners on the domestic violence. The main protective factors are the professional independence of the mothers and the support of the social network.
