The Author deals with the rising international competition to host Mega Events (e.g. Expo or Olympic Games). The legacy of a Mega Event is evident from the facilities which are either constructed or refurbished, accommodations built, transportation systems improved in the host city and region, with the aim to attract other large scale-events, and to improve tourism and economic development: the effects include the identity and the visibility of the Place. The post-event planning must occur during the pre-event stage, because the legacy for the local community are more relevant than the event itself.

Keywords: Mega Events, urban regeneration, local development, tourism, legacy, identity
