The end of colonial empire and the deindustrialization have produced significative changes within the social and urban landscape of Marseille. Since 1995 a transformation process aiming to attract new investors and initiatives on the poorest suburbs has affected the city. The present article sums up the results of this set of interventions, focuses on the role of the public agency, analyses the dynamics of the public-private partnership and the effects produced by this transformation on the society.
