This work deals with the topic of grief according to the "bond theory", therefore it refers to a part of French psychoanalysis, and specifically to Racamier’s thought. The crucial point of the theory is to understand what happens to the bond between two people when one of them dies. The bond between the deceased and the survivor remains, but it changes. In this article the qualities of that bond are discussed, a bond which lacks corporeity, reciprocity and a future, as it is based on legacy instead. This work proposes some clinical examples which suggest how grief is not only an individual matter but how it can also dramatically involve people in future generations.

Keywords: The mourning process, originary mourning, death, intersubjective links, psychic inheritance, family psychopathology.
