The understanding of the shift in the relation between territory and production is a major challenge during the current economic crisis. However, the analysis of transformations is more complicated during a period that still lacks reference models for the understanding of real phenomena. Intellectual curiosity and willingness to take risks are two essential ingredients to succeed for those researches that could play a pioneering role in this regard. The aim of this article is to open up a debate on methodological issues and the need to urge researchers to be more resolute. The author suggests new research issues, recalls texts and working procedures and proposes a wider use of field research as a way of facilitating the interdisciplinary dialogue, as it happened in the past
