Fibromyalgia is a chronic widespread pain syndrome characterized by numerous symp-toms. A sample of 233 fibromyalgia subjects (M = 45.7, DS = 11.7) residing in Italy and mainly women (97.4% females and 2.6% males) was given a battery of tests which included an ad hoc socio-personal questionnaire, a test for evaluation of personality traits (PID-5-BF) and one for coping styles (COPE). From the results, a personality profile emerged mainly characterized by Negative Affec-tivity, Detachment and Psychoticism. The average values of the coping styles do not differ significantly from those of the normative sample and the presence of specific personality traits predict certain coping strategies. In conclusion, the knowledge of the personological profile, of the ways of coping with the stressful situation and the type of relationship that exists between the two constructs represents useful information in clinical terms, so that even the figure of the psychologist can play an es-sential role in the multidisciplinary intervention to the patient suffering from fibromyalgia.
