The paper outlines the state of research in the field of LGBTI people’s health needs and pro-fessionals’ assumptions in Italy. After a review of the previous studies, the article describes and discuss the main results of a recent survey conducted in the Brescia area on the attitudes of medical students towards LGBTI people and their knowledge of specific health needs, useful for improving health services. The results of the study show a mostly positive attitude of the participants towards LGBTI people and, on average, a fair knowledge of their health issues, as well as provides inspiration for future research.
