In addition to the analysis of the baby-observation experience, the paper introduces some considerations on both the teacher’s own sub-jectivity, as well as on the psychoanalytic training of the students. The author examines the possible development of analytic neutrali-ty on the side of the students, when they are identifying a family to ob-serve, and they are faced with the process of defining the relationship within the observational setting. Some specific characteristics of this experience are connected to the analytic training, offering a differentiation between technique and method. The importance of developing an identification with the teacher, on the part of the students, is described and the possibilities of affiliation are underlined, more than the multiple contents. Attention is given to the importance of calling the students to face with the task of taking written notes of their experience, assuming this as a relevant psychoanalytical tool, not only in reference to conscious undertaking, but also with reference to the subjective potential effects. Comments extracted by some final notes of the students are includ-ed in the paper, as part of the dialogue with the author’s analysis.
