The relationship between ecologism and neo-fascism has so far remained largely on the margins of historiography, despite the interest within international academic debate in so-called “eco-fascism”. This article analyses the approach towards the ecological question taken in the late 1970s and early 1980s by parts of Movimento sociale italiano (Msi) associated with Pino Rauti and congregated around the Centro (later Istituto) di ricerca Bio-politica. Such groups launched the first series of the journal “Dimensione ambiente” (1977-1978) and organised the Gruppi di ricerca ecologica (ecological research groups, Gre). The terminus ad quem was identified in 1981: while the first wave of environmentalist mobilisations was coming to an end. the Gre launched their “Manifesto ecologico”.
