The Design International series is born in 2017 as a cultural place for the sharing of ideas and experiences coming from the different fields of design research, becoming a place in which to discovering the wealth and variety of design, where different hypotheses and different answers have been presented, drawing up a fresh map of research in international design, with a specific focus on Italian design.
Different areas have been investigated through the books edited in these years, and other will be explored in the new proposals.
The Scientific Board, composed by experts in fashion, interior, graphic, communication, product and industrial, service and social innovation design, interaction and emotional design, guarantee the high level of the accepted books.
After the first selection by the Scientific Board, the proposals are submitted to a double review by other international experts.

Barbara Camocini, Francesco Vergani (10319.11)
The environmental emergency of the last century has led to an urgent need to reformulate the predominant role of human beings on the planet by undertaking a less anthropocentric design approach. Within this theoretical framework, the book explores the role of Design as a multifaceted discipline capable of exploring the complexity of a changing world, and reconsiders the human being’s position in a pervasive relationship with the contemporary environments through a More-than-Human approach.

Extended Store How digitalization effects the retail space design Extended Store How digitalization effects the retail space design
Anna Barbara, Yuemei Ma (10319.10)
Extended store has been a work of mapping the phenomena of digitalization that effects spaces and above all the world of retail. Shops will not disappear in the 21st century, but they will have to change (if they have not already done so) to survive. They will have to evolve by integrating technological solutions that are not only back-end (as they have done so far), but front-end, and therefore available to customers in the shop as in the cases reported in the book.

Collectively Designing Social Worlds History and Potential of Social Innovation Collectively Designing Social Worlds History and Potential of Social Innovation
Carla Sedini (10319.6)
What are the social facts that led to the need to activate social innovation processes? What is (and what can be) the role of design in these processes?
The challenges of modernity and post-modernity have led designers to become often protagonists and activators of sustainable and social innovation processes, possible thanks to users' and stakeholders' involvement in co-creation processes.
This book adopts a multidisciplinary approach to eviscerate social innovation as a concept with its foundation in theoretical, political, and methodological domains. The present discussion will be based on sociology and design. The first will mainly define the theoretical framework of reference; the second will mostly deal with experimental and applied research dealing with social innovation.

Packaging Design in the Digital Age A systemic approach to e-commerce Packaging Design in the Digital Age A systemic approach to e-commerce
Silvia Barbero, Amina Pereno (319.11)
This volume offers a critical reading of Packaging Design in the Digital Age, tackling the issue of packaging for e-commerce and the strategies that designers can put in place with a view to sustainable innovation. Then the book explores the main types of e-commerce system to identify the existing material and immaterial flows and the related problems, from which the authors set out future systemic visions towards sustainable development. Case studies of packaging and e-commerce systems complement the different chapters to offer practical examples of innovation.

Anatomy of a puppet Design driven categories for animated puppets’ skin Anatomy of a puppet Design driven categories for animated puppets’ skin
Vincenzo Maselli (319.9)
The history of puppets happens to be the one of human evolution, because puppets have inhabited human religious rites, technological experiments, artistic purposes and have been used as entertainment tools. This volume focuses on a specific typology of puppets, the animated ones, used even today as protagonists of stop-motion films. By engaging an interdisciplinary analysis of animated puppets’ manufacturing processes, this book places a challenge: it merges design and film studies’ methods of analysis and applies criteria of material examination of design objects to investigate puppets’ material aspects.

Designing Knit Designers Designing Knit Designers
Martina Motta (10319.3)
Traditionally associated with craftmanship and manual work, knitwear seems a quite unusual subject of investigation for scientific research. This book places it as an integrative part of the industrial design culture where the dialogue between a productive system of excellence and the design discipline taught in universities becomes a topic of central concern. The present book reports an experimentation conducted in the unique conditions of the Italian industrial design culture, that defined tools and methods to train knit designers not as artists, but with the technical and cultural knowledge and the project-oriented mindset that is typical of industrial design disciplines.
