The labour market in Italy shows a clear dualism between the protected workforce, supported by the Statuto dei lavoratori, and the other one, made of unprotected employees, who wholly hold the flexibility requested by the economic system. The well known Author’s thesis is that a crucial first step lies in designing a new labour system able to reduce, at least initially, the enterprise’s cost of the regular work; at the same time able to offer to all new entrants adequate jobs and a real equal chance. Good opportunities are offered by many techniques, both protective and flexible, tested in the most advanced countries. The solution is to replace gradually the new system to the outdated one, applying it to the coming employment contracts..
