Camorra clans, nowadays very present on the public scene given their growing criminal and economic power, have often been analyzed through the scheme modernity/ tradition, and the "Camorra" has been described through stereotypes or literary patterns. Recent historical studies have renewed this analytical scheme, by shading light on long-lasting features of organized crime in Campania. The article reviews recent literature focussing on three main questions: the emergence of the so-called Sect during the unification of Italy; its growth during the belle époque, and the relationship with fascism, less known and studied.
Keywords: Camorra, Sect, Italian unification, Giolittian age, fascism Parole chiave: camorra, setta, unificazione nazionale, età giolittiana, fascismo
