In this article the Authors underlined the phenomenon doing a comparison between the domestic violence (DV) and intimate partner violence (IPV) in Italy and in Slovenia. Over the last twenty years domestic violence, which in all analysed cases meant violence against women, has become partially normalized, but the shame and guilt of individual women have not yet been diminished. The comparison was drawn upon different qualitative and quantitative data including the data collected by ISTAT in Italy (2007) and a National Survey in Slovenia (2010). The article include also the issues on the women with disabilities. The overall comparison shows again that violence against women is not a private but a public issue and that the prevalence as well as the "hidden number" is still very high.
