L’obiettivo del presente studio è quello di indagare il rapporto tra malattie croniche e sessualità, nella considerazione che le malattie croniche sono spesso associate a problemi di natura sessuale, in genere sottostimati e non diagnosticati. Per individuare adeguate ed efficaci modalità di intervento da parte dei clinici sono considerati anche gli aspetti della relazione e le dinamiche di coppia. Sono state esaminate le seguenti condizioni cliniche: sclerosi multipla, malattie renali croniche, malattie polmonari croniche, malattie reumatiche e malattie cardiovascolari. Le diverse tipologie di malattie croniche pongono particolari sfide sia ai pazienti e ai loro familiari, che al personale medico. Attualmente sono a disposizione diverse strategie per migliorare la qualità di vita dei malati cronici e rendere più gestibile anche la sessualità. Dopo una riflessione sugli ostacoli al dialogo tra medico e paziente sui temi della sessualità, vengono evidenziate anche le potenzialità del personale infermieristico, che può costituire una efficace fonte di informazione, capace di coniugare aspetti fisici e psicologici.;
