The paper presents the major findings from a research meant to investigate the relationship between young elderly and the use of technologies, and explore active ageing and the role played by media and ICT in building a friendly and positive environment for older adults. The research, completed in one year, is articulated in (a) in-depth literature review, (b) a survey conducted on a representative sample of Italian young old (65-74 years) about ICT equipment and usage (N=900), (c) a field-work consisting of 20 interviews with families living in Milano and surroundings. Preliminary results show that (1) processes of ICT domestication are basically influenced by the personal biography of the old people; (2) ICT and Internet have a significant impact on the everyday life of the elderly; (3) ICT and Internet seems to be a good opportunity for a better and active ageing but even a risk in terms of social isolation inside and outside the family.
