Healthcare must overcome self-referentiality and find again its users as well as its community; the latter, playing a part in the emergence and maintenance of diseases, must be actively involved in both preventative and therapeutic interventions. Italy’s multiculturalism, along with the resulting diversification of health needs, requires a reorganization of healthcare which is partaken and shared by all the social actors: multicultural training is necessary in the medical field. In order to improve the effectiveness of prevention and care it is, indeed, essential to become familiar with the etiological and therapeutic models of the foreigners. A prime example is HIV.
