The aim of the article is to point out the importance of using a gender perspective in the analysis of poverty. Poverty, in fact, takes different features when involves women as compared to men. The article presents the results of a qualitative research that has explored how women who are in poverty perceive the situation they are living and tackle it. The study has been carried out by focus groups with the operators of the Caritas of Friuli Venezia Giulia Region who take care of women in poverty. The results of this research have highlighted the importance of using a gender perspective not only to conduct research but also to take care of women in poverty. Indeed, the effectiveness of interventions in dealing with poverty depends on how much they fit the needs and the resources of the single person.
