Olympic solidarity is undoubtedly the political programme par excellence of the IOC, which, with this particular instrument, pursues the key objective of its universalising mission: territorial, technical and economic cohesion between the centre and the periphery of the great Olympic family. The article therefore aims at analyzing the principles which inspired the concept of Olympic Solidarity, its results and developments, from its launch to the innovative turning point determined by Juan Antonio Samaranch, president of the IOC, during the 1980s.
