The necessity to face collective or individual critical events, man-made or natural, always puts the subject of the emergency on the psychotherapists and psychologists’ focus and its implications potentially traumatic. Indeed this experience can disrupt the normal and obvious psychological functioning, but, with appropriate supports, it can even revitalize it, becoming a decisive moment of personal growth that leads to abandon a naive view of reality. The author says this by examining the founding text of the Gestalt psychotherapy: Gestalt Therapy: excitement and growth in the human personality, in which the emergency, is not only a recurring theme, but it rather accompanies all the book, establishing a strong connection with the model of psychotherapy and with the definition of suffering and psychological health.
