On the basis of a deep review of the research on this topic, the author warns against the potential medicalization of what could be a new communicative pattern. In fact, it is stressed that there is not enough evidence about social practices related to the web. A possible answer to this new phenomenon (the IAD) could come - paradoxically - from the web. Indeed, IAD could be treated by web-based interventions. PB - FrancoAngeli ER -
