The review by Tommaso Dell’Era is concerned with the history of Fascist propaganda, as it is depicted in recent books. He distinguishes between publications related to propaganda in Italy, towards journalists and Italian public opinion; and those dedicated to the history of the various institutions responsible for propaganda abroad. In the review section, Maria Iolanda Palazzolo examines the studies on ecclesiastical censureship in the nineteenth century, in particular the Congregation of the Index, until its suppression in 1917. She concentrates on Hubert Wolf’s Storia dell’Indice, stressing its significant contribution in many respects, but also pointing to some interpretative inadequacies.
