The study investigates the relationship between multiple identities in the anti-global movement. Specifically, two levels of territorial identity (local and national) and two levels of collective identity (group and movement) are taken into account. The study aims at testing the hypothesis that anti-global activists are rooted cosmopolitans, according to the definition coined by Tarrow (2005). 309 young members of the anti-global movement, gathered together at the Athens Social Forum (May 4-7, 2006), were administered a questionnaire aimed at measuring their local identity, national identity, group identity and movement identity. Results confirm that small group collective identity strengthens the large group collective identity, yet they question the role which was hypothesized for local and national identity. Implications and limits of the study are discussed. Key words: social movements, collective identity, place identity
