Social ties and metropolitan space-time - Simone Ombuen (p. 114) The paper discusses the position of the problem of peripheral urban areas with respect to general categories of community life in the current organisation of metropolitan areas. It looks particularly at the need to give priority to the construction of citizenship and social cohesion over the physical dimension. However, at the same time it points to the absence of political action able to properly address conflicts and in general to the absence of politics from planning decisions in society.
