This paper shows a model of learning assessment as a result of a genuine participatory process in an interactive educational environment, in order to create valid methods of evaluation and self-evaluation. The authors develop a critical reflection on the experimental activity carried out with the students attending the training course of Methodology of Social Research II at University of Genoa during the Academic Year 2009/2010. A participatory evaluation involved students in the selection of the criteria, dimensions and indicators of the examination performances. In an evaluation perspective, this paper addresses the main problems in the building process of sharing and validating the indicators. The aim is to negotiate with students the criteria, dimensions and indicators of the examination performances. In addition, students were encouraged to follow the path of learning on the job, through their active engagement in the knowledge and evaluation building and through the use of methods of self, peer and collaborative assessment.
