Object of the article are the West syndrome and the Landau-Kleffner syndrome, two clinical pictures which belong to the group of "epileptic encephalopathies", that according to the 2001 classification contribute to a progressive deterioration of the brain functions. The authors explore in depth the etiopathogenic, clinical, electroencephalographic and prognostic aspects of the two syndromes and confirm the role they play in causing cognitive damages and behavioral decline, stressing the importance of a timely and effective pharmacological intervention by controlling seizures and improving the growth outcome.
