This paper proposes a review of the clinical case of Sara and Italo, a married couple that has undergone a successful family systems therapy, seen in the light of the reference model of depth psychology and, specifically, of analytical psychology as founded by Carl Gustav Jung. The biographical highlights of Italo and Sara, including dramatic events such as deaths and separations, Sara’s eating disorders, or relational connections like marriage and relationships with their family of origin, are interpreted with special focus on the elements related to the unconscious, the activation of archaic defenses, and archetypal manifestations.
