Jean-Marie Robine underlines implicit and explicit connection points between Stern’s thought and some main concepts of gestalt therapy, for examples, the field perspective. The difference that the author underlines between the two epistemologies of reference is rich with reflections. Although he considers Stern as a light for psychotherapy in general, Robine criticizes the attitude of some gestalt therapists to identify with him and therefore with a psychoanalytic epistemology. It’s only by appreciating differences between the two approaches in some main concepts (for instance the self, the now moment, contact and relationship), and not denying them, that there is a possibility to dialogue between them.
