This paper focuses on the job placement policies earmarked for young people. The first part will describe the regulatory instruments which over the years and, above all, in more recent times have been passed in order to foster the employability of young people. Within the current scenario of work policies specifically dedicated to them, the apprenticeship ranks first. The other forms of employment with training purposes will be as well described, in particular the traineeships which, since the mid-1990s, have been introduced within the legal system and have been arranged in different ways in the attempt to bring young people closer to work. A second paragraph is dedicated to the training provided to apprentices and, finally, in the third paragraph we will be reviewing - on the basis of data derived from the XIII monitoring report on apprenticeship by Isfol (NoT, Italian Institute for the Development of Vocational Training for Workers) - the trends in youth employment and the difficulties run into by the actions aimed at promoting the employment of young people.
