The paper aims to discuss the new forms of political communication in Italy after two decades during which the principal actor was Silvio Berlusconi. In particular, the author focuses on the Italian politician who nowadays best represents the symbolic switch from a political communication based on television to a digital and web-based one: Matteo Renzi. The analysis pinpoints the most important features of the discourse order built by the current Italian Prime Minister. The author uses many excerpts coming from parliamentary speeches, political essays, news interviews, internet posts; these issues make clear the way in which Matteo Renzi puts forward a project based on a narrow difference between discourse genres and forms of interaction. In this perspective, Renzi uses storytelling as a metaphor of his political action. This textual type and symbolic medium makes him more close to American politicians than Italian ones.
