In this interview, Jean-Marie Robine explores the concepts of field, situation, self, and states the importance for the client to be recognized by the therapist. The reader will notice how the concept of the situation helps to better understand the concept of field, which is used in many different ways by Gestalt therapists, and how important is to make choices. The author also underscores the role of recognition in the therapeutic situation, which is a basic ingredient for change. The Gestalt therapist’s choice to use a field and an aesthetic paradigm nourishes her/his capacity to be with the client and and to function as therapist. At the end of the interview, Margherita Spagnuolo Lobb, Gianni Francesetti and Piero Cavaleri comment on the concept of field, bringing in new ideas and outlining similarities and differences with this concept of their French colleague. This article is an occasion to create a common language among theoreticians of Gestalt community. It generates new reflections, while at the same time respects differences.
