The Department for Work and Pensions attributes part of the good results in the labor market to its intervention philosophy in the labor policies, known as Work first! The paper presents the evolution of this philosophy in terms of PES made in Britain in the past two decades. After having presented the articulation of the model of welfare-to-work the research will focus, through a secondary analysis, on the impact assessment of the main relocation programs developed in the UK. The brief review of the programs takes on an important role for the Italian context, as in the coming months  the " Contratto di ricollocazione” will come into force,. It is a tool which in different forms has already been used in the UK where there have been a series of criticality. Therefore analyzing what actions have been taken to address such critical points is also vital for public employment services in Italy
