The paper focuses on the relationship of fathers with their daughters; in particular of those fathers of modernity, said "maternal", offering girls the first care at an early age. One wonders what it means for a baby-girl to have enjoyed the more intimate physical contact from the earliest stages of life with a man, the father, instead of the mother or in any case with a woman - "nanny", grandmother, nurse -; and how to build consequently the identity of gender of a child, through the primary identification processes, if to take care of her is predominantly a male. What does it matter in the relationship between father and daughter having practiced an early physical intimacy with respect to the problem of the mutual seduction fantasies, of eroticism and incest risk in its various forms? It is also interesting to ask whether there is a nexus - rather circular than linear - between the general trend to indifferentiation, to impoverishment of sexuality in young couples, and the increasing phenomenon of maternal fathers. They are variations of identity construction of gender and the management of the instincts, which necessarily are transmitted from parents to children; problems of which we should continue to understand the significance.
