This article proposes some interpretations of the concept and the practices of collaborative consumption, framing the relation between them and the commons. The author sheds light on the public dimension considered essential for an appropriate thematization of the commons and to frame the collaborative consumption from an ethic, civic, potentially political point of view. Finally, the article frames a possible commons based governance that instead of governing collaborative processes, is oriented to facilitate them.
