The essay presents Ehrenfels’ concept of absolute beauty as a fundamental object of aesthetics. Against aesthetic scepticism, according to which we attribute beauty to objects which are very different from one to another and have only the name "beautiful" in common, Ehrenfels maintains that it is not the external physical objects that are beautiful, but the phantasy-constructions triggered by them. There exists an absolute beauty as «unity in multiplicity» that is contained in every «really beautiful» object of art or nature and is appreciated by every human being.
