Our ways of working, designing and living together are changing. The reuse and reactivation of vacant buildings and abandoned assets are the visible manifestation of such a change. In Naples, since the beginning of 1990s several initiatives in labour and welfare policies have addressed challenges such as sharing practices, reusing spaces, and producing innovation. A new interpretation of the commons has been proposed and implemented by the Municipality, making public assets available for some groups, but the innovative initiatives of community hubs have to cope with a shortage of financial resources, difficulties related to working together for a long period of time, resources’ cuts in the welfare system and emigration of young people.
