This paper analyses the development process that changed the economic landscape of Friuli since the sixties. From the literature review a picture emerges that has strong similarities with the Third Italy's model. Compared to that model, the case of Friuli differs in two main aspects: the role played by the Autonomous Region Friuli Venezia Giulia to support local economic development; the role of development accelerator played by the reconstruction after the 1976 Friuli earthquake.
