The objective of this paper is to propose a reflection on the role of the school as an educa-tional agency. Defeating and/or preventing educational poverty is one of the missions of the educational institution, also since the family is increasingly less equipped to respond to the educational needs of young people. It is the school that is often called upon to support parents in their role. The contribution focuses attention on the relationship that school children have with their grandparents and on the type of such relationship. The generational transition, the trans-mission of the family’s values and historical-cultural memory goes particularly through the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren.
