Gender medicine could be defined as the Science that studies the influence of sex in its biologi-cal meaning, and gender in the social meaning on the physiology, pathophysiology and clinic of all diseases, to build targeted therapies for men and women. Specifically, in Italy we are lagging far behind the studies carried out in other EU countries or in America, especially since the 1990s. For many years gender medicine has been considered as the medicine that deals with the problems of prevention and treatment of classical female diseases (related to the sexual and reproductive sphere, from maternity to menopause). The CNR’s Unique Guarantee Committee has tried to investigate this issue through scientific studies and research that take into account research already under way. The commitment to dissemination and knowledge is intended to stimulate our young researchers. Moreover, it is considered important to decline the differences of reflection on the matter from the epidemio-logical, pharmacological, oncological and cardiological point of view.
Keywords: Gender medicine; Single Guarantee Committee; epidemiology; Yentl Syn-drome; scientific research.
