With the help of some clinical fragments taken from a weekly family psychoanalytic psy-chotherapy, the author tries to show how slips of the tongue and dreams are formations of compromise that, besides fulfilling strictly individual functions, can also express the organiza-tion and functioning of the unconscious psychic reality of the family bond. The psychoanalytic work on the common and shared family psychic space, as well as on the slips of the tongue and dreams brought to the session, will allow, to this family characterized by the prevalence of a deadly functioning and by an absence of transmission of meaning, to begin a work of repre-sentation and symbolization of the transgenerational origins of suffering.
