What types of learning occur in city contexts that are transitioning towards experiences of cultural pluralism? What are the meanings attributed to differences by individuals sharing spaces and activities? What role do commercial practices play within these dynamics? How do relations between historical traders and traders with a migrant background shape up? These are some of the questions that form the background to the qualitative research presented in this contribution. It is an ethnographic-driven study that, through the use of semistructured interviews and moments of observation, aims to analyze what learnings, fostered by contact practices, can shape relationships, behaviors, and interactions among merchants with migrant backgrounds, their customers, and the organizational actors of representative associations.
