In the last few years roll on-roll off transport (ro-ro) has been affected by several factors, such as progressive containerization of goods, development of intermodal transportation, promotion of the Motorways of the Sea, etc. Nevertheless roll on-roll off transport still plays a significant role in many European ports. In such a scenario, the study aims at showing the relevant trends observed by roll on-roll off transport in the Central Mediterranean area with reference to Tyrrhenian and Adriatic seaports. In this perspective, the research utilises Eurostat transport database in order to outline the roro structural features and the main aspects of inter-port competition.
