The paper develops Dewey’s idea that any process of inquiry - from the simplest to the most complex - brings growth and development for individuals, communities, and societies. This growth occurs proportionally with the mastery of methods, tools, and forms of knowledge. These help us to develop a wider awareness and understanding of problems arising from human experience. From a pedagogical point of view, inquiry develops an educational process and can therefore be considered an educational device in itself. It becomes, therefore, extremely significant to reflect on the principles for an educational theory of inquiry according to a Deweyan perspective.
