In the last years a large numbers of articles and books have been published by historians and political scientists regarding the crisis and the fall of the Christian Democratic Party. This process is generally related to the radical changes that were taking place inside Italy and on the international scene in the early 1990s. Few studies therefore have been investigated the role of political Catholicism in the years of transition from the first to the second Republic. The author proposes a reflection about this literature with an overview of the principal interpretations widespread in historiography, political and social sciences.
